Breast Augmentation Surgery or Augmentation Mammoplasty

• Complete and relevant blood tests to be conducted before the surgery, as prescribed by the treating doctor.
• Blood thinning medications should be clearly identified and stopped as per the doctor`s instructions.
• Intake of nicotine should be completely stopped before the surgery.
• The treating doctor will measure, photograph and study the patient`s breasts, for understanding the desired results and recording the patient`s medical history.
• May undergo a mammogram and ultrasound breast.

The surgeon may make the following incisions during a breast augmentation surgery

• Inframammary (just under the breast)
• Periareolar (edge of skin around the nipple)
• Transaxillary (under the arm)

The treating doctor will position the breast implants through either sub-muscular or sub-glandular placement and then fill the implants with saline or silicone.

• The patient should be prepared for post procedure pain and swelling for a few weeks.
• Regular simple arm exercises are recommended to speed the healing process and reduce pain.
• Strenuous and heavy physical activity should be avoided for 1-2 months or more based on the patient`s recovery post the procedure.

• Adverse reaction to anaesthesia during the procedure.
• Post procedure infections.
• Fluid (seroma) collection, due to improper drainage.
• Distorted appearance after the surgery due to incorrect positioning of the implant. This may lead to a second corrective surgery.
• Continuous pain in the arm and breast.
• Change in sensation on the breast or nipple.
