About the Treatment

Trabeculectomy (Conventional surgery for Glaucoma) is the common surgery for treating glaucoma. When the intra-ocular pressure in the eye is no longer controlled by the eye drops, then the patient has to undergo surgery to control the pressure. It creates a new opening to drain fluid for reducing the pressure.

Following tests will be done before the surgery

Ophthalmoscopy
Tonometry
Pachymetry
Perimetry
Gonioscopy
Don`t use eye makeup, at least, a week before surgery
Don`t use glaucoma medicine in the eye to be operated.
Dentures, hearing aids, etc. may be worn during the surgery

Local anesthesia will be given before the surgery (Trabeculectomy).
The surgeon will create a new opening to drain the fluid between the eye tissue layers by removing small tissue.
One eye is operated at a time.
Post Procedure
Drops to fight infection and inflammation has to be put in the operate eye for several weeks.
