    About the Treatment

LASIK can be defined as a surgical process that involves a laser to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. In a LASIK surgery, a thin flap is created in the cornea by making use of one among the two, i.e., a femtosecond laser or a microkeratome blade. The flap is folded back, and then some corneal tissue underneath is removed by the surgeon using an excimer laser. After this process is complete, the flap is placed back in its original position, which covers the site where the corneal tissue was removed. In the case where a person is suffering from nearsightedness, the goal of the LASIK performing surgeon is to flatten the highly-steep cornea; in the case of farsightedness, the surgeon desires a steeper cornea. Moreover, in the case of astigmatism LASIK can be performed to correct the problem by smoothing and bringing back the cornea to a regular shape.

  • Your doctor will do several eye check-ups to make sure you qualify for Lasik.
  • Discontinue use of contact lens a week before surgery
  • Keep your eyes free from debris, creams, makeup, etc.
  • Avoid using perfumed a day before surgery
  • Wash with baby shampoo, at least, a week before surgery
  • Make arrangements for to and fro from hospital

Topical anesthesia is given. A flap of cornea is made, and the cornea beneath it flattened using a laser to correct the refraction. This procedure can be done in following ways:

  • Relex Smile - A femtosecond laser is used to create a refractive lenticular within the stroma which is later removed by making a small incision.
  • LASIK - A knife is used to make a flap in the cornea, and a laser is used to reshape the corneal layers underneath to treat refractive error
  • Intra LASIK - The flap is made with a laser in this procedure and rest followed as above.
  • Photorefractive keratectomy - (PRK, LASEK), Cornea is reshaped without making a flap
  • Surgery takes 20 minutes approximately.

  • You may go home after 2 to 3 hours of observation
  • Wear dark sunglasses to avoid sun glare
  • Avoid rubbing of eyes for weeks after surgery
  • Use eye drops to prevent dryness of eyes

  • A scratchy or burning sensation
  • Mild discomfort
  • Reduced vision in low light
  • Watery eyes
  • Overcorrection
  • Under correction
  • Induced astigmatism
  • Glare or halos around lights and
  • Double vision
  • Sensation of dryness
  • Long-term rise in corneal infection and ulcers
