Liposuction / Body Contouring / Lipoplasty

    About the Treatment

Liposuction aids in removing excess fat, through a suction technique, from various parts of the body, such as thighs, abdomen and buttocks. This procedure can be performed in the following ways

    • Powered Lipoplasty
    • Ultrasound-assisted Lipoplasty
    • Tumescent Lipoplasty

  • The treating doctor will advise the patient to undergo certain blood and other tests, to ensure that the patient is healthy.
  • The surgeon shall also study the patient`s medical history.
  • The patient is advised to stop all intakes of nicotine and alcohol 60 days before the surgery.
  • The surgeon shall further get before and after photographs of the patient to understand the results of the procedure.

The procedure used for a liposuction surgery varies based on the amount of fat that needs to be removed. The procedure may be carried out under general or local anaesthesia based on the area that needs liposuction. The following three procedures can be undertaken for liposuction:

  • Powered Lipoplasty: is done by inserting a tube in the area from where the fat needs to be removed. This technique is used for removing tough fat, from knees, arms & ankles. The inserted tube moves back and forth, thus creating friction that removes the fat.
  • Ultrasound Assisted Lipoplasty: uses a thin metal that emits ultrasound waves, which help in breaking and liquefying fat cells.
  • Tumescent Lipoplasty: is done by inserting a solution, which is a mixture of water, epinephrine, salt & lidocaine. The solution stiffens the area, through which a tube is inserted to remove the excess fat.

  • The patient can go home after a few hours of the surgery. However, overnight stay is recommended.
  • The patient may experience swelling, pain and bruising.
  • It takes 2-4 weeks for the procedure wound to heal completely
  • A compression belt or a garment will have to be worn to ensure that the treated area does not get distorted.
  • Antibiotics may be prescribed along with certain post procedure guidelines to avoid any infections.

Specialized healthcare provisions and experienced doctors minimize the risks and complication associated with the procedure. However, a patient should be aware of all plausible risks and complications, before undergoing the procedure:

  • Adverse reaction to anaesthesia during procedure.
  • Post procedure infections.
  • Distorted appearance post the surgery.
  • Scars, burn marks, skin discoloration and skin necrosis may be experienced post-surgery
  • Fluid collection or blood clotting, due to improper drainage.
